In Dubai Even the Buildings Swing
Dubai is either going to go down as the most audacious success story or greatest flop in the history of the world. Only time will tell if spending untold billions in oil money on ridiculously huge man-made islands, crazy indoor ski resorts and thousands upon thousands of hotel rooms for visitors that don’t as yet exist is a bit of crazy genius or just plain stupid. But the sheiks are betting their wild vision will draw millions each year to a place where the heat index routinely hits 140 and is, you know, a touch unstable.
If it works it’s going to be because of places like this – Dynamic Architecture’s The Dynamic Tower, “the first Building in Motion to be constructed in the world.” Here owners can literally move their apartments on a whim to enjoy breakfast and dinner at sunrise and sunset in the same fuckin’ room. According to the website, “The Dynamic Tower offers infinite design possibilities, as each floor rotates independently at different speeds, resulting in a unique and ever evolving shape that introduces a fourth dimension to architecture, Time.” Einstein would’ve totally dug this shit.
When we open our offices in Dubai, we’re totally going to buy in this building. Because nothing says you’ve arrived quite like a penthouse apartment that literally swings!
