Friday Links: The King is Dead
Yesterday, we noted the sad passing of Farrah Fawcett. We'd be remiss if we did not also express our sadness at the premature death of the King of Pop, Michael Jackson. Jackson was a rare musical genius, among the most electric performers in history, and unquestionably one of the most important cultural figures of the last half-century. He was also a deeply flawed human being who failed in the end to escape the fantasy world he constructed to defend against the tragic reality of his surreal life. He enriched the lives of millions of fans and possibly ruined those of others. His life and legacy are rife with complexity. But we'll leave it to others to find the words to make sense of this enigmatic, tortured genius.
