CALIFORNIA

California remains one of the most fertile cougar ecosystems in the world. Not only is it a huge state, both in terms of size and population (allowing for a nearly incomparable breadth of cougars), it's also a pretty liberal place across the board.

These cougars are not afraid to hunt, folks.

LOS ANGELES AREA

Padri Martini Bar, Agoura Hills, CA

"off the Kanan exit on the 101 freeway. This place is filled with mid 30's and 40's Cougars, divorcees looking for that moment of socially accepted moment of promiscuity. They got a live band, good atmosphere, plenty of alcohol, and nothing but nice quality Cougars!!!"

La Palapa, Belmont Shore, CA

"On the border of Long Beach this place is simply awesome for hunting. It features a live band with some buff freak from the 80's that wears a Indian rug vest and gives the cougars lap dances while playing his saxophone. If your up for the big game head here."

Sagebrush Cantina, Calabasas, CA

"This place is a Mecca for the Trans-Am/Taurus coug. A fair number of felinae Extraordianrious - Coyote there as well. This is a HUGE den in the west Valley...most sightings are Sundays from 3pm-9pm as they cougs tan their thick oily coats in the hot valley sun with a live 80s hairspray replay band in the background....outstanding."

Tokio, Hollywood, CA

"Here is a in the cut coug den in hollywood called Tokio. Its a restaurant/bar that I have been lucky enough to become prey to some very hot cougs. On any given night it is a toss up between trans-am and cad cougs, but my biggest catch was a stray rolls-royce. If you want to be preyed upon, just post up at the top bar and stay in plain sight of the entering cougs. It's a no-brainer!"

Alex's, Long Beach, CA

"My personal favorite, Alex's in Long Beach showcases local punk bands from the So Cal area

Those boys don't know what hit them when we show up.."

The Standard, Los Angeles, CA

"The Standard in downtown LA is quite the cougar den. Located in downtown, The Standard is an expensive poseur-hip after work bar for financial institution executives who believe they have game, and as such hosts many a cougar."

Casa Del Mar, Los Angeles

"This is the spot for happy hour cougar encounters. Mostly Cadillac cougs with a few L.A. style Trans Ams mixed in. However, since this is a hotel also, you will most likely see a few traveling out-of-town Rolls Royces here, too."

Pancho's, Manhattan Beach, CA

"Most impressive was the way the ladies embraced their Cougar status. Some of the cougs were even showing their playful side by clawing at the men in an all too suggestively feline way. I'm wondering if there is any way you can lobby Arnold to declare Ponchos a state wildlife preserve in order to ensure that this pristine cougar habitat gets the protection it deserves."

Harry O’s, Manhattan Beach, CA

"I (26) took my buddy (22) the day he graduated from USC. A cougar (31) heard that he had just graduated and not only did she go back to his apartment off campus but the next day she helped him move his stuff with her truck."

Beechwood, Marina Del Rey, CA

"This establishment just opened up in the past few months and so far the hunting grounds have proved to be quite fertile. You can smell the Cougars downwind starting at about 7:30pm and by 8pm a few Trans Ams usually show up. The Cadillac and Volkswagens appear around 9pm and by 10pm/11pm the place is scattered with various breeds, although Rolls Royce and Ferraris are fairly rare, the fact that this locale serves as a restaurant adds to the possibility for a variety of sightings. The food is pretty good too, but the Cougs' are better."

H.T. Grill, Redondo Beach, CA

"Wow!! A bunch of us had dinner on Fri. night 7/22 at H.T. Grill in Riviera Village (Redondo Beach area) and then stepped put to the bar area for a few drinks. Holy Cow!! I have never, ever seen so many cougars in my life. We were still talking about it on Sunday!"

Sino Lounge, San Jose, CA

“Sino Restaurant in San Jose's Santana Row is the place to see gaggles of cougars anytime of the week but mostly on Thursday through Saturday. Sino is the place all these ladies end up after an exhausting day perusing through Santana Row's many up scale stores like Gucci, Salvatore Ferragamo, Anne Fontaine and Oakley to name a few. The large lounge area and the curved bar allow for suitable viewing or hunting of the multiple species that gather here. While the mix of oldies and contemporary music along with the good food keeps them the mood for a long while. Check it out.”

Mahe, Seal Beach, CA
“Mahe restaurant is located on PCH in Seal Beach, CA and is a haven for cougars and their younger, mostly surfer prey. Weekends are the best time to find the predators hard at work as this is when there is live music which seems to make for the best hunting conditions. They can be found in the lounge area dancing and the sushi bar is very popular as well. If you like 40+ feline predators - Mahe in Seal Beach is a cougar ‘no-brainer’!”

James Beach, Venice, CA

"James Beach is a cougar landmark on the west side of Los Angeles. All wet-behind-the-ears cougar hunters would be well served to cut their teeth at this cougar institution. James Beach specializes in the Cadillac cougars that are on the fulcrum of becoming Trans-Ams. The crowd is usually solid and the after-parties are flowing. With an outdoor deck the Trans-Ams can be observed in their natural environment: cigarette in hand, mini-skirt, a tan that is 4 years shy of leather and a nose for partying. If all else fails, James Beach has the best French fries in the city and, oh yeah, my friend Daryl lives right around the corner."

Bogies, Westlake Village, CA
“This is a prime hunting spot.  Outdoor/Indoor bar, with strong martini's, live music and plenty of places to lounge.  You can find every type of cougar, plus plenty of CIT's.  Even a couple of the cocktail waitresses fit the mold!  The best part is, most of the guys are in their 40's and 50's, so if your young and brave, you will score EVERY TIME!”

ORANGE COUNTY

Symposium, Orange County, CA

“My name is Tyler and I work at a wine tasting room/bar called Symposium. Its a slightly upper class joint selling mostly fine wines and cocktails. I am writing for two reasons: I grew up in Orange County all my life therefore I'm a big fan of Cougars, and two, because I've noticed over the past few months working there that this is a Cougar den through and through. The most common customers we have are young executives from the Irvine/Newport area. Lots of money, and lots of drinking. Then there are the cougars that hunt them (I've been propositioned a few times). Its a great place with a nice atmosphere, and the bartenders (like myself) are all very willing to help you kick off those work shoes.”

South Beach, Palm Desert, CA

“Caddy”

The Harp Inn, Costa Mesa, CA

“Live classic rock bands on Friday and Saturday night bring out all the local cougars. My buddy and I go here almost every weekend and wake up with some pretty good gash wounds in the morning. Most of the guys are old, poor, and out of shape which gives the young hunter a huge upper hand here. A good training ground for wanna be hunters.”

Foxfire, Anaheim

"This little lounge is not too dissimilar to the QW (see The Quiet Woman below) in Newport, except it's about 10 times larger... which means about 10 times more cougars. The cougars are there for one thing and most of the 50 year-old single gents can't off it, so it makes for an easy go around for the young bucks. This place is a true gem and, believe me, this place is 'An American Chophouse.'"

Gulfstream, Newport Beach, CA

Before heading down the street to the Quiet Woman, grab a bite here. This OC trendy hotspot has only the best of cougars. Personally, I’ve never seen a bar with more 30-50 year old beautiful women.

The Quiet Woman, Corona del Mar

"It's a staple of the O.C., enough said... besides an occasional Julie Cooper sighting, there is nothing but Cadillacs and Rolls Royces here. You have to pay to play boys."

*UC's take: We've spent more time in this tiny establishment than we'd care to admit, but we have to agree that this fan speaks the truth. Warning, though: the line here can be obnoxious and many of the cougs have more baggage than United Airlines... and they're happy to check it with you.

Hush, Laguna Beach, CA

“I have been there 7 times and have walked away with a cougar about 5 or 6 of those nights. Really classy lounge and great dinner. The cougars are the aggressors in this lounge. They come for only one reason.”

La Cave Newport Beach, CA

"If you have never seen Phil Shane then you havent lived. You can tell just by looking at the place: low ceiling, underground, low lighting, and plenty of cougars. There are some great cougars there. Some big ones too. La Cave is a pretty good cougar den. There were many cougars there and there usually is."

Opah's Restaurant Aliso Viejo, CA

"just thought that I would drop an email to let you know about an outstanding Cougar Den in Aliso Viejo California. It is great for finding the classy / Rolls Royce Cougar...The restaurant is called OPAH'S RESTAURANT. On Wednesday night it is filled with fine older ladies that have one thing in mind.....YOUNG SEX...

Velvet Lounge at Prego Restaurant, Irvine

"The event is held bi-monthly. View info and pictures at http://www.ocafterdark.net.This upper crust cougar den is a gold mine for fake-breasted cougars with one thing on their mind."

Stella’s, Dana Point
“Greatest cougar den in southern Orange County. Wall to wall cougars. An abundance of cougars; once the martinis started to flow, it was like shooting cougs in a barrel. These weren't run of the mill cougars, they were the mold from which all other cougs were cast: Blonde hair, deep tans, boobs Barbie would envy, and of course, social salivating for young flesh.”

PALM SPRINGS

Costas, Palm Desert

"If you're looking for fake tits, tattoos, and domesticated cougars, check out this establishment. Remember: cougars always attack more on vacation." UC's take: If you can't bag cougars here, you can't bag 'em anywhere. Trust us.

SAN DIEGO/CARSLBAD

Del Mar Race Track, Del Mar

“The Del Mar racetrack in Del Mar, CA (just north of San Diego) needs to be added to your list of dens. During the season (particularly later on, towards Labor Day), this place is teeming with Kewgs of all types and varieties; however, one stands out above all: The Mustang. This is the horseracing (or any high-brow event, for that matter) attending cougar, dressed to the 9's with her jewels, sundress, big hat, and Coco Chanel sunglasses (think Kentucky Derby), who encourages you to make that adventurous bet on the 65:1 longshot horse who, you swear, is retarded (how many horses do you know that try to enter the starting gates, ass-first?), because "it turns her on to watch her man take a risk." Often found on the arm of a younger, unassuming, man, this kewg knows her place, so long as you cater to her every desire (a little quid pro quo, if you know what I mean). If you don't believe me, take a trip next summer for the season...you won't be disappointed.”

The Del Mar Plaza, Del Mar

“A Rolls Royce or Mercedes is your most likely encounter although since Highway 56 has punched through to the coast, Coyote and Trans Am sightings have become more and more common. If you are a shy young male, you may want to steer clear or wear some camouflage as it is nearly impossible to escape this jungle unscathed. Whether your mission is to be devoured or you simply would like to observe the Urban Cougar in her natural habitat, the Del Mar Plaza is a must stop for any cougar enthusiast.”

George's at The Cover, La Jolla

"George's creates a new sense of the term, 'quite a view.' The cougars in George's are some of the best looking species I've ever encountered. Easy and beautiful... what a combination."

Scalini, Del Mar

"Once a month (unfortunately I cannot reveal when due to tough competition), The Rolls Royce and Cadillac cougars of Del Mar and Rancho Santa Fe come out for a few martinis at Scalini. I recommend arriving early because the cougars flock to this spot and the hunters aren't far behind."

World Famous, San Diego

"World Famous is a restaurant/bar that during the summer and fall months, attracts cougars of all ages, no matter what day of the week it is. Mondays are especially interesting, as many of my friends and I have been scratched by the cougars present. A definite must on the cougar den."

SAN FRANCISCO/BAY AREA

Balboa Cafe, San Francisco

"If you are aiming to score with a Rolls Royce cougar, this is where you want to go."

Cozmo's, San Francisco

"Great place to be hunted by groups of Cadillacs. Park yourself at the bar and prepare to be devoured."

Trader Sam’s, San Francisco

“Trader Sam’s in San Francisco is a complete cougar den. It has the tropical theme that is tacky enough to be funny, but at the same time classy enough to create a great atmosphere. Constantly filled with cougars on the prowl. Dark enough for the prey to not know what is coming, but light enough for them to love when they are pounced upon.”

Paradise Bay, Sausalito

"I was out in San Francisco area a couple weeks ago and was out to dinner with my wife and a few other couples and could not believe all the coug's out on the dance floor preying on unsuspecting young drunk guys. The restaurant (Paradise Bay) was in Sausalito and it was right on the bay. Just thought I'd let you know.....the jazz band really lends itself to suggestive dancing by all of the Bay Area Cougs."

Perry's, San Francisco

"Perry's is the spot to head for a mid-afternoon cougar encounter." UC's take: On a sunny day, park it outside, order a bloody and wait.

Momo's, San Francisco, CA

“Just across the street from where the Giant's play, this indoor/outdoor place attracts yuppie cougars who arrive in small packs. You might have to deal with fresh-out-of-college girls as well, but the older cougars are less shy. Before a game on a warm weekend is great, and after the same game is even better. Cougars are there for one game only, and it ain't in the stadium (but it does involve smacking balls on turf).”

The Saddlerack, Fremont, CA

“The Saddlerack in Fremont is full of both Urban Cougars and CIT's. Its a country bar/club w/ a mechanical bull, barber's chair and a dance floor packed w/ cougars!”

Shaboom, San Ramon, CA

“Shboom's night club , San Ramon California...all the cougars from Bing Crosby's and P.F. Chang go there to get there groove on!!!” House of Brews, Huntington Beach, CA “house of brews in huntington beach california..this den has all species of cougars and they are there any night of the week.. awsome hunting ground...hahaha check it out.”

The Round Up, Lafayette, CA

“They come down from the hills and woods of this upscale Contra Costa County community to see what they can drag home by the neck. It's a mixed bag at this casual bar, but I have seen cougars stalk young rugby players here on Thursday nights. Live music, frequently oldies, gets the coug-blood boiling. Good beer selection, and just 5 miles from Walnut Creek. Close to Starbucks on Mt. Diablo Boulevard.”

Choice’s, Benicia, CA

“O.K., the best damn cougar den I've encountered is in Benicia CA, and it is called CHOICE'S....always packed full of cougars or barracudas as we call'em in port towns...the first night we went there was with our italian friend vito, we are from Vallejo and Benicia typically has more respectable girls....we decide to go to choices a place none of us had been before...and to our surprise 90% of the ladies in there are 35+ and 90% of the dudes are less than 30...cougars of all financial classes (vallejo is right next door so coyotes abound) races, styles, a cougar heaven...they have no standards either...there were two midgets (they weren't the big headed ones but just extremeley short) one balck one mexican..all the cougars were dancing with them trying to decide who was the ultimate prey...the mexican takes off his shirt and the whole place erupts, all the cougs flock to him and the black one goes to sit down at the bar..our friend vito was staring dumbfounded and couldn't believe what he was seeing, aside from the dance floor hunt there was a 6 ft tall Bengal kissing a young black dude, every type of cougar and there prey imagineable...we didn't know the place was like this either but we played it off...our friend vito was never the same.....Choice's, at the bottom of first st., Benicia CA. 94510”

The Blue Pheasant, Cupertino, CA

“The Blue Pheasant has been in existence for over 30 years and carries its share of controversy due to the large crowds it draws in a mostly high end, very conservative, residential community (the restaurant sits in front of a golf course surrounded by multi-million dollar homes). However, almost every night, party-goers flock to the BP and dance to a bizarre mix of Disco, Oldies, Latin, and Hip-hop music. Of course, Cougars are well-represented in this mix.”

British Bankers Club, Menlo Park, CA

"Upscale Den like bar, but if you are looking for divorced rich Menlo/Atherton milf's......this is your place. During the holidays while in college, I used to love going to this joint and pissing off all of the 50-60 year olds trying to score. One glorious thanksgiving my buddy once got asked by a cougar to come home with him so she could dress him up like a fireman. But alas the Cougar did not tame the meat. Nice cheezy live bands on the weekends playing all the 80's hits."

Number One Broadway, Los Gatos, CA

“Thirties, Forties, Fifties and beyond, on Friday and Saturday nights they pack into this one-room bar, bump and grind in sweaty abandon to live staple bands like Pacific Standard Time (10-piece funk band - seems to be a connection between James Brown and pelvis thrusting with complete strangers). Mostly Caucasian and Asian.

This upstairs bar has a narrow deck wrapping 2 sides of the building, with an entrance at each end. Hang out near one or the other doorway and you'll meet every chick in the place as they slide out for some cool night air. There's a pool table squeezed in one corner with lots of Cougars open to instruction; get there early, chalk your name on the board, and let the attention come flowing to you.”

Steamer's Grill, Los Gatos, CA

"Los Gatos, renowned for it's wealth and snootiness, is a prime hunting ground for the Mercedes. Steamer's Grill, in particular on Thursdays. Nary a stool at the fine oak bar isn't adorned with Louis Vitton, Prada, or Kate Spade purses, most barely wide enough to hold the Virginia Slim Ultra light Menthol 120's and the spare pack. I've actually seen them hanging from the rafters like the vampires in The Lost Boys. Well worth the trip for happy hour to see them in their most primal state."

The Dead Fish, Crockett, CA

This little gem, tucked away in the armpit of the East Bay, has a restaurant bar that is crawling with Richmond / Vallejo cougs. The most common classifications spotted here are African, Asian, Coyote and a wide variety of clunky WASP/MILFish models*.

If you're not hunting Rolls Royces or Ferraris exclusively, or you want a change of pace from the faster-than-light San Francisco cougar dens, this place is definitely worth a poke. Prime hunting season occurs on summer weekends (or pretty much any weekend for that matter), when they usually flock to the bar in packs of 3s to enjoy the overrated view of the Carquinez Straits. Do not be wavered by their traveling in larger bands though, there's something about the air out there that focuses all of the cougs on the same prize: trying to hump you. If you prefer hunting for solo cougs, this place is better on weekdays in the late afternoon/early evenings, where there hasn't been a happy hour that's gone by with at least one coug waiting patiently at the bar by herself sipping a lemon drop.

*Beware: there have been, albeit extremely infrequently, Saber Tooth sightings here. We think this rare and sought-after breed might stop in at The Dead Fish during her bi-yearly migrations from San Francisco to the Napa wine country.

Meenar Music Club, Danville

"This small town bar is packed with cougars of all kinds... Rolls Royces all the way to Taurus' in one spot. All these cougs have one thing in common, however; they come alive to the sound of live music. It's our experience that the cougars here are particularly aggressive and love parking lots and SUVs."

Meenar Music Club, Danville, CA
“Best place for the HOT cougar set in Danville is  Meenar’s.  In fact, Danville may have more hot chicks per capita than any city in the entire bay area…  unless you like a little diversity in your women.”

P.F. Chang's China Bistro, Walnut Creek

"If you like Chinese food and single, independent women, this is where you want to be on Thursday nights."

Slates Supper Club, Walnut Creek

"Quite a swanky cougar den. All you'll find in here is either Rolls Royce or Cadillac cougs. Thursday night especially attracts them. They come in looking for young rich ballplayers from the Oakland A's and Warriors. These cougs are partial to Mochatinis, Chardonnay and mojitos, just in case you need cougar bait."

BING CROSBY'S RESTAURANT AND PIANO BAR

***EDITORS NOTE*** we here at uc.com received so many emails about the ubrbancougar activity in Walnut Creek the staff did some field work one Thursday evening to see what all the talk was about. Lets just say we were presently surprised with the action, especially at this little spot. So many cougs that we almost got whip lash checking them all out. Good spot....

The Saddle Rack, Fremont, CA

“The Saddlerack in Fremont is full of both Urban Cougars and CIT's.  Its a country bar/club w/ a mechanical bull, barber's chair and a dance floor packed w/ cougars!”

Crush 29, Roseville, CA
“I went to Crush 29, a new bar/restaurant in Roseville, CA and I was amazed at both the quality and quantity of cougars in this den. They roamed in packs of 4-5 and were definitely on the prowl. I'd say the predator to prey ratio was at least 2 to 1. Also a lot of pumas and cubs mixed in for those indimated by the aggressive nature of a true cougar in her prime!”

The Silver Peso Bar, Larkspur, CA
“Just a short drive into Marin County is not a huge cougar den but it does have it's local packs the come in and prey every once in a while. The packs are rarley there at the same time, but if they are no one is safe.”

SANTA BARBARA AREA

Chad's, Santa Barbara

"This is the den of dens in this swanky land of real-live soap opera living." An Old Victorian Charming restaurant with great food, great drinks and unbelievable Rolls-Royces all over the place.

Rock's, Santa Barbara

"VIP please." A two level restaurant / bar with all of the necessary ingredients. Live Music, Good Food and a Killer Martini.

Blue Agave, Santa Barbara

Another favorite stop on the weekend SB circuit is the Blue Agave. Noted for great interior design, soft lighting and intimate fireplace, couches, and out of the way booths upstairs, this is a true cougar goldmine.

Lucky's, Montecito, CA

“The urban couger den in Santa Barbara is definitely Lucky's in Montecito. Owned by the Lucky jeans guy , this place is definitely the spot full of blond ( LA transplants) cougars. There on the hunt. Save some $$$$ ( 20 or 30 mill) and its easy pickings.”

Elements, Santa Barbara, CA

"Offering a high end menu, Elements is becoming well known as a trendy hot spot for happy hour".... and cougs?

SACRAMENTO AREA

Bandera, Sacramento
“…which is over by Sacramento State University on the intersection of Fair Oaks Blvd and Howe Ave.? The crowd is up scale, but it is more of an after work place to grab a drink and unwind kind of place. If you are looking for a place to prowl, and take your prey back to your den, this place is great to check out.”
